Week 41: He Knows!

¡Familia y Amigos! 

Wow! Another week come to a close! I am beyond grateful for general conference! We are so blessed to hear the voice of the Lord through his servants!!

We had SO many miracles this week! One in particular was last Tuesday night! Sister Bentley and I had just finished dinner and we had some potentials and unknowns we were going to try and see, but we didn't know where exactly we needed to be. 

So we knelt down and prayed before we left the apartment and a couple names came to mind. So we stopped by the first two and found a new investigator and then we went to an old investigators house and WOW!!! The SPIRIT IS AMAZING!!! 

We showed up to her house and started talking to her, and Coke to find out she was having the hardest time. She told us that she struggles with faith and coping from past experiences she has had. We were able to share our testimonies of the resurrection, made possible to the Savior. She told us that she feels like she can't feel God in her life. 

We then told her how we had prayed and how her name was one that came to our minds. We then got to testify of the reality of the Love of our Heavenly Father, and how he Knows her.

I know that the Lord loves each of us. We all can bless one another's lives as we seek out who needs our help. I am so grateful to be a missionary and for the message I am beyond blessed to share with others everyday.

This week I feel like there are so many things I want to bear my testimony of! I know that we have modern day prophets and apostles! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Saviors church on the earth today. He leads and guides it. The messages that were shared in conference were all inspired. I would invite you all to read and listen to them throughout these next six months and strive to find what message the Lord needs you to understand. He knows you and will help you through anything!

I love you all and an so grateful for the love and prayers that I can feel everyday

Week 40: To Be Submissive

¡Familia y Amigos!

Hello Hello! Another week come and gone!! Seriously I feel like
everyday goes faster!!

But these week was pretty amazing!! So we have been having a big pull
on finding these last few weeks and this week we found 3 new
investigators!!

MIRACLES!!!: We also found 2 families!! One of the families was so
incredible! So the wife was a referral from a non member, and we have
been trying to contact them for a long time and have never caught them
at home! So we saw them in their backyard (no one out here has fences)
and so we went us and started talking to her. She was so nice and as
we talked she started talking about stake presidents, and
missionaries, and wards and my companion and I were a little confused,
and so we asked her how she knew so much, and turns out she's a less
active member!! We found a lost sheep!! She hasn't been active for
about 15ish years but she told us she watches every general
conference! So we were pretty excited to meet her, but her husband and
4 kids aren't members, so we are pretty excited to go over this week
and invite them to take the lessons!!

Submissive. A Christlike attribute that I have been pondering about
quite a bit! When the Savior was in the Garden of Gethsemane, he asked
the father if there was any other way, not once, not twice, but three
times, and as he asked he equally added 'nevertheless not my will but
thine be done'. He didn't have to do it. He was perfect. He lived a
sinless life. But he CHOSE to do it. He chose to do it because he
loved the father, and because he loved each of us. He was willing to
do whatever was necessary to fulfill the fathers plan. He did it
because he was submissive.

We ask Heavenly Father and sometimes when we receive our answer we
quickly say "oh, meant I would do anything but that!". This week as
General Conference is coming up and as we remember the Savior and his
atoning sacrifice and his resurrection I hope we won't forget to be
submissive to he will of the Father, just as our older brother was
willing to do.  If the spirit has prompted you to do something, or if
he does during conference, I would invite you to act and be submissive
to the Father. He loves you, and as was said in the General women's
broadcast on Saturday, "It is not always easy or convenient, but it is
worth every sacrifice".

I love you all and hope you had an incredible Easter and are looking
forward to hearing the Lord speak through his mouth piece here on the
earth! May he spirit uplift and bless your lives as you listen to the
Leaders of His church!

Week 39: The Busiest Week Ever!

¡Familia y Amigos!

Wow! This week flew by! We were seriously so busy!! I feel so blessed to go to bed tired and wake up tired, it means we have work to do and lives to bless! :) and since we were so busy I am apologizing for the lengthy email this week!

We had interviews with President and Sister Vest on Tuesday and I love them both so much! I know that they are both called of God! Then, right after interviews we had District meeting. I love my district and am excited to get to know them more!

We had exchanges Wednesday and Thursday and we had service almost all day Friday! We got to go work at one of our members new to her house in the morning and we ripped off layers and LAYERS of wallpaper! I had a little too much fun tearing it down, but it will look really good when she gets to paint! We also went to one of our members herb farms!
We helped package chives and dill and I smelled like a pickle the rest of the day, but it was really fun and I love that we have so many opportunities to serve the members up here!

On Saturday we had our investigators baptism and it was so good! The spirit was so strong! We had the craziest day! Our water had been ice cold for the last three days, and we had smelt something really odd when we got back from exchanges and our Branch mission leader came and checked our water heater, and we had had an electrical fire! Yikes!!
But we called our Landlord and got a new water heater that day. Then we went to lunch with one of the Senior Sisters who is going home and then ran to the church and set everything up! It was probably one of the neatest baptisms I have been to on my mission! Our investigator had a stroke a few years ago, so he is in a wheelchair and has some other restrictions, but he is truly amazing, and I have learned so much from him these last few weeks! He's going to do great things!

Then Yesterday we had Church, and I played the piano for Sacrament meeting, relief society and choir! Mom, shout out to you and all my piano teachers over the years because it has been the biggest blessing to be able to serve the branch by playing the piano! We also just had
6 couples senior couples who are serving at Adam-ondi- Ahman get assigned to our branch for the next 6 months, and the Salines, a couple I took through the Visitor Center back in September who are also my cousins, are one of the couples! Tender mercy right?! Then we went down to Liberty Jail after church so one of our recent converts could speak at a fireside! So I got to see all of my cute Sisters Serving at the Jail and all of my Senior couples!! I miss them all, so it was really good to see them!

All in all we have had the craziest week, but I have felt so blessed!
So many miracles and so many tender mercies! The Lord is so aware of us!

This week I wanted to just share my thoughts on being grateful! I cannot begin to express my love for gratitude!! It is an incredible concept that no matter what is going on in our lives that there are always things to be grateful for! Our water heater went out this week, and I am so grateful for warm showers! It snowed after our baptism (I know, it was in the 70's two weeks ago, but that's Missouri!) and what a blessing because our investigator lives 45 minutes away from the Church and I don't know if anyone would have been able to drive the dirt roads to his house to pick him up if it had snowed before! Those are just a couple of examples, but I am beyond grateful for gratitude!
And conference starts this weekend! SO MANY BLESSINGS!! I hope that you all will take time to reflect on the many blessing that the Lord gives you on a daily basis. I know he is there and that no matter what, he wants us to seek out his love!

Week 38: Preparing in Faith

Familia y Amigos!

WOW! This week has been SO busy, crazy, amazing, incredible, full of awesome week ever! My nine month mark was this week (where in the world has the time gone?!), I got to meet an apostle, I got to see all of my favorite missionaries and all in all had probably one of the most amazing weeks of my mission!

We had all mission conference and Elder Gary E. Stevenson came and spoke to us! It was truly one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had! Elder Deshler and Elder Anderson of the 70 also spoke to us, and the spirit was so strong! He talked to us about post mission planning and finding (aka marriage- which gets talked about an awful lot, but don't worry, I took notes and won't use any of the advice until after December 30th) and then He talked about how incredibly blessed we are to serve in this mission! I couldn't agree more! Missouri has blessed and changed my life forever!

He talked a lot about catching a vision of who we are and who the people we interact with throughout our missions and lives are! I LOVED that! We need to know who we are in order to get to where we want to be! So this week I have been praying to catch a vision of who I am to the Lord and who my investigators/members are also! It has only been 2 days and I can already see the difference!

We also had Zone Training, and again so many answers to prayers! The Lord is incredible! I also got to speak in the Branch on Sunday and talk about Sister Bentley and I's experience! Out investigators baptism is this Saturday and he is doing so good and he is super excited!!

Our Savior Jesus Christ lives! He knows us personally! When we pray, our Heave Father hears our prayers and he will always answer. As I prepared for all mission conference, I took questions to the Lord and studied them prior to going. Over the 3 hours we were with them sitting in the Chapel, answers to my questions came, and as General Conference is in just a few weeks, I would invite all of you to take time to ponder and prepare for Conference! Take time to pick questions you are seeking to have answered and I can promise you, that as you prepare to be taught by the leaders of the church, the Lord will pour out his spirit on you and you will receive answers to your questions.

Week 37: You Know You're in the Boonies When...

¡Familia y Amigos!

Wow this week has been INSANE! So first off I am SOO excited that I will have two new babies in the family when I get back! I am so excited to be an aunt!! 

And the Streak continues!! I have been transferred to Albany, Missouri!! So I'm back out full proselyting and my New companion is Sister Bentley from Pleasant Grove, UT! She came out with me, and has been in Albany for 7 months so I'll probably get to stay here for at least two! 

But we are out in the Boone Dogs for sure!! Hence the title of my email. Our area is HUGE and I feel like I am back in Iola!! We have like a 45 minute radius from where we live every direction! We cover a bunch of tiny towns and one of them was the inspiration for my title his week! 

So I'll finish: you know you are in the boonies when the speed limit is higher than the population... (Seriously though, one of the towns has a population of 44 and the speed limit is 55) Haha so yeah there's that! It has been so weird to be back out and about full time! I miss the Jail, But we will make this transfers good one!

So we have an investigator, who just so happens to have the same name as my Dad crazy stuff, and he is on date for the 19th of March! He just barley quick smoking and drinking coffee and he is doing awesome!! We are super excited for him! We have a lot of recent converts and less actives in this area as well! Tonight we are going to see a family that is working on getting sealed, pretty incredible!

The Lord knows what he is doing. One of the biggest lessons I have learned on my mission is that He knows, and He has it all figured out. I have been reading about the Sons of Mosiah this week and one of the verses that really stuck out to me is in Alma 17:11 :

"11 And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls."

This scripture brings me so much comfort! The Lord commands these missionaries to Go forth and to be patient in long suffering, and that as we do so we will become an instrument in his hands. I know that sometimes it can be hard to trust the Lord, especially when things are hard, but I know that as we do so He will make more of our lives, gifts and talents than we ever can. So if things are a little hard, remember the Lords counsel to Go Forth and be patient because it will all work out.

Week 36: The Strength He Gives

¡Familia y amigos!

This week has honestly been incredible! 

A couple highlights:

We got to go back to my last area for a Baptism for my investigator back in my Branch! I have never felt the Spirit so strongly as I did as her Baptism! She is 17, and none of her family came, but almost everyone from the branch was there! She is in good hands! It was so fun to see Hna Oldroyd and all the people from the Branch! I love those people so much! It was also so fun to be back in the inner city! Haha I think it kinda scared my companion and the member that drove us, but that's ok! It will forever have a place in my heart! 

We also went on a Blitz with our Sister Training Leaders (a Blitz is when they come to our area and we split, so I was with Sister Helmbold, which was way fun! So we can cover more of our area in one day!) We found THREE new investigators!! I could have cried! We haven't been able to find people all transfer, but we are slowly seeing miracles!! 

And speaking of transfers, they are this week, so we won't find out until tomorrow night what's going to happen and I'm excited to see if my streak of constant change is gonna stay!

This week my testimony is simple. The power of prayer is real. When we pray, Heavenly Father listens, and he is there. I know that God answers our prayers, and just like the Nephites '...being strengthened by the hand of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him that he would deliver them out of the hands of their enemies, therefore the Lord did hear their cries, and did strengthen them,' (Alma 2:28) As we pray and ask the Lord for help he can strengthen us no matter what. So if you feel like you can do it anymore, like taking even one more step will make your knees buckle, turn to the Lord in prayer, and I promise he can you the strength you need.

Week 35: The Time to Love

¡Familia y Amigos!

 

This week was a crazy one! It flew by so quickly! I had the opportunity to speak yesterday in sacrament meeting about missionary work! It was such a blessing to be able to share my love for this gospel to the members! ALL of our investigators came to church yesterday (can I get a hallelujah to that!) and almost all of our less actives! The work is progressing more and more each day!

I didn't have much time today, but my thought for the week is on charity. Take time to tell the people in your life how much they mean to you! We are all sent here to help uplift and strengthen one another, so what can you do this week to show the people in your life you love them? I hope that as you take time to express your love, you will want to do it more often me come to love those around you even deeper.
